Hey y'all, my name is Cameron and this is my new website that will house everything having to do with my writing journey. At the time of writing this I am in my first semester of my senior year at Texas State University, I got the idea to start this platform from a classmate in my creative writing course. The reason why I decided to go ahead and do this before graduating is because I want to start building my platform as an author quickly so that once I am ready to start traditionally publishing my longer work I'll already have a community set up that can enjoy what I write.
I promise my fiction writing is much more fun to read than my blog writing.
With that said I do think it is important to go ahead and set a precedence for what y'all can expect from me and this website. First I'll be posting my works in progress under my short stories blog and after those are done and I'm finished editing I'll be self publishing here and on Amazon. The reason why I want to do this is because I want my future readers (and any potential aspiring writers) to see how I work through ideas and bring them to life. I have always found it fascinating how different authors write in different ways and want to show anyone willing to listen how I write.
Second I will also be posting about writing and my tips and ideas and what I've learned from my time in school about writing. I feel like there are so many resources out there for people wanting to learn how to write but it can be daunting to figure out where exactly to start. To combat this issue I'll be going through the basics all the way to where I am now in my writing journey. That way those who follow this blog won't have to chase down basic information about the craft or spend an exorbitant amount of money trying to figure out if writing is truly for them.
Lastly I am currently working on creating a writers circle type of thing on this website. Up until this semester I really did not know of anyone else who wrote fiction and often felt lonely in my creative pursuits. And because I am awkward at joining groups of strangers I've decided to make one. It's probably going to be for site members who are also writers where we can share different tips and tricks and talk about our successes and struggles as writers. Everyone is welcome from the novice to the expert. I truly do wish to help others and learn more from different people about writing in general. I'm not entirely finished with creating this section of the website but when I am I will be sending an email to everyone who subscribes to this website.
Speaking of emails...
If you do decide to subscribe to my email list please know that I will not be bombarding you with promotional emails or trying to sell anything. It will most likely be used only for big announcements regarding publishing or new major features added to this website.
One more thing that I would like to discuss is how my blog pages will be set up on this website, just in case anyone who comes across it gets confused. I will be having three major blog pages. The first (which is where this post will be going) is information about myself or the website and announcements of what's to come. The second will be my short stories that are works in progress, I'm still trying to decide if I will have some completed stories as free and some as paid or have all as paid or all as free, but I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I might even do a "this story is free for a limited time only on my blog page" type of thing. I'll know more as I go along. The last major blog page that I will have will be my writing advice and tips on the craft. This will also be where I will answer questions that anyone ay have that might be good for a wider audience to learn about as well.
I know I'm starting from zero right now but I hope that as my audience grows people will read this blog post first so they know where exactly it is that I'm starting from. But anyways I think that's all that I wanted to include in this first post for right now. And if anyone does read this please leave a comment to let me know what you think and if what I've discussed doing in this post may be of any interest to you.
