The Morrigan

Updated: Nov 21, 2023

“Oh great queen high upon the hill,

Bless this battle according to your will.

Though it be bloody and unwon yet,

I know it fate that your will is set.”

“The hour of your deaths is nigh,

But I have heard your great outcry.

Through steel and bone your lives are forfeit,

But, your clan's victory I will protect.”

“Oh great goddess crow,

Cannot your favor show?

I have land, heirs, and a wife,

They wait for my return, save my life.”

“Coward and snake!

You dare to sway who I take?

What gall to make such demands,

Oh soldier with shaking hands!

Fine. Your life I shall save,

But be warned, oh witless knave:

Your land shall be rendered barren,

Destroyed by the meeks’ warren.

You shall bury your heirs one by one,

Starting with your first born son.

Through plague and violence they shall suffer,

And your wife’s fate shall be tougher.

She shall mourn by your side for three years,

And when the last heir is buried, and dry are her tears,

A stranger shall come and steal her away,

And when you are on your knees to pray

She will cut you down with your own sword,

On this you have my word.

So take your life today and enjoy it,

For soon your fate shall come as is writ.”
